SnowRiders

The Program: Sharing the Mountain with Our Youth
Founded in 2006, the goal of our Snowriders program is to bring youth who wouldn’t otherwise have the chance to experience snow sports up to the mountains. By providing gear, transportation, lessons, and access to the mountain, the program aims to share the joy of skiing and snowboarding with children from all walks of life.

How it Works: A Team Effort
The Snowriders program is a joint effort of the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows, Sky Tavern, Mt. Rose Ski Resort and the Marce Herz Foundation (formerly NYSEF). Applications, submission selection, transportation to-and-from the mountain, and daily lunches are all handled by the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows. Mt. Rose has generously provided, space, lift tickets, equipment, and lessons to our Snowriders since the program’s inception—allowing hundreds of underprivileged children the opportunity to experience snow sports without financial stress. Finally, the Marce Herz Foundation acts as the link between Mount Rose and the Girls and Boys Club—ensuring the entire program runs smoothly and providing volunteers who help outfit each of the athletes and organize youth ski groups.

What to Expect: The Daily Schedule
The program takes place over six Sundays every year. Each day is structured the same: mornings are comprised of a two-hour group ski lesson with Sky Tavern and Mt. Rose ski instructors depending on which mountain the athletes are at. Athletes then eat lunch provided by the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows. After lunch, the athletes are divided into groups based on skill level, and spend their afternoon with high-school ski team racers for an afternoon of fast-paced fun.
